Medical Injection Molding Contract Manufacturers

Medical injection molding requires clean room manufacturing, biocompatible material sourcing, and quality documentation standards that go significantly beyond standard plastics manufacturing. ISO 13485 certification is the baseline quality management standard for medical device manufacturing and is required for any injection molded components used in FDA-regulated devices. A standard injection molding manufacturer without ISO 13485 certification is not qualified for medical device component production. This page lists medical injection molding manufacturers. Use the filters to compare by device class, certifications, and location.

What to Look for in a Medical Injection Molding Manufacturer

Medical injection molding has quality system and material requirements that distinguish it from commercial plastics manufacturing. These three criteria address the most important qualification requirements.

ISO 13485 Certification and Quality System

ISO 13485 certification is required for any injection molded components used in FDA-regulated devices. The certification requires documented design controls, purchasing controls, production and process controls, corrective action systems, and post-market surveillance capability. Confirm your manufacturer’s ISO 13485 certification is current and that the scope covers the type of device component you require.

Biocompatible Material Sourcing and Validation

Medical grade plastic resins must meet biocompatibility standards defined by ISO 10993. Not all plastic grades used in commercial injection molding are appropriate for medical applications. Material traceability including lot numbers and material certificates of compliance from resin suppliers must be maintained throughout production. Confirm your manufacturer sources medical-grade resins with appropriate biocompatibility data and maintains full material traceability.

Clean Room Classification

Medical device components typically require production in classified clean room environments. The required classification depends on the device type. Class 7 (ISO 7) and Class 8 (ISO 8) environments are common for non-sterile medical device components. Sterile device components may require more stringent classifications. Confirm your manufacturer operates the clean room classification appropriate for your device type.

Key Certifications for Medical Injection Molding

Medical injection molding certifications address both quality system compliance and material safety standards.

ISO 13485 certification is the baseline requirement. FDA establishment registration is required for components used in US market devices. ISO 10993 biocompatibility assessment documentation is required for materials in patient contact. EU MDR compliance is required for components used in EU market devices.

MOQs for Medical Injection Molding

Medical injection molding MOQs are driven by mold tooling investment and validation requirements more than production minimums.

Mold tooling investment for a medical component mold typically ranges from $10,000 to $100,000 or more depending on complexity. Process validation including IQ, OQ, and PQ adds significant time and cost before production release.
