Private Label Softgels Manufacturers and Contract Softgel Producers

Softgel manufacturing is a specialized continuous process that requires in-house rotary die encapsulation equipment. It is not interchangeable with standard capsule filling, and not all supplement contract manufacturers produce softgels. This page lists softgels manufacturers producing gelatin and vegan softgels for fish oil, vitamin D, CoQ10, CBD oil, omega-3, and oil-soluble supplement applications. Use the filters to compare by fill type, shell material, certifications, and location.

What to Look for in a Private Label Softgels Manufacturer

Softgel manufacturing has specific equipment and formulation requirements that make manufacturer selection more constrained than for most other supplement formats. These three criteria address the most common qualification failures.

In-House Softgels Encapsulation Capability

Softgel manufacturing uses a rotary die that simultaneously forms the gelatin shell and fills it with the liquid fill material in a single continuous operation. Manufacturers that outsource softgel production to a third party add supply chain complexity affecting lead times, quality control, and communication. Confirm in-house softgel capability before requesting samples or investing in formula development.

Fill Compatibility with the Gelatin Shell

Water-based or highly aqueous fill materials are generally incompatible with gelatin shells because water migrates into the shell, causing softening and deformation. Highly acidic fills can degrade gelatin. Ingredients with very low water activity can cause the shell to dry and crack. An experienced softgel manufacturer has formulation libraries for common fill systems and can advise on compatibility before development begins.

Fish Oil Oxidation Testing

The quality of fish oil softgels is primarily a function of the freshness and oxidation level of the incoming oil, not only the encapsulation process. Fish oil oxidizes rapidly when exposed to air. Confirm your manufacturer tests incoming fish oil for TOTOX value, the standard measure of oil oxidation, and has a defined specification for acceptable TOTOX levels before use. High TOTOX oil produces softgels with a rancid smell that consumers will not repurchase.

Key Certifications for Softgels Brands

Softgel certification requirements vary by the specific active ingredient and target retail channel.

NSF Certified and USP Verified are the primary quality certifications for softgel supplements. For fish oil and omega-3 softgels, IFOS (International Fish Oil Standards) certification provides the most recognized purity verification for omega-3 concentration and absence of contaminants including PCBs and heavy metals. Vegan softgels using HPMC or starch shells are available for brands requiring plant-based positioning.

MOQs for Private Label Softgels Manufacturing

Softgel MOQs are higher than most other supplement formats due to the continuous production process and the equipment setup requirements involved.

25,000 to 100,000 units per SKU is a common starting range. Custom fill formulas require compatibility testing before production, adding four to eight weeks to the development timeline. Vegan softgels typically carry higher MOQs and per-unit costs than standard gelatin softgels.
